Already learned (Sorrento's call · 5/18) — don't re-learn

From the practice call:

The call · 5 steps

1

OPEN · lead with the actual event narrative (this is the lever)

"Hi, my name is Hunter Fleischhacker. I'm calling about a community pizza order for this Friday May 22.

I'm hosting Anchorage's Bitcoin Pizza Day at The Den at UAA — it's our local chapter of PizzaDAO's Global Pizza Party, a worldwide community event across 250+ cities celebrating the first commercial Bitcoin transaction. We're the Anchorage host, through Stand With Crypto Alaska and the Alaska Crypto Club.

We're expecting 30–50 community members, students, founders, and builders. Free pizza event, beginner-friendly. I'd love to use Moose's Tooth as our pizza partner — I had a few quick questions before I lock the order. Do you have 5 minutes?"
Don't skip the narrative. This is what gives you leverage for the discount ask in step 4. Sorrento's got "community event" only — they declined to formally discount. Moose's already saw the donation request. Different posture.
2

GET THE PRICE · this is the data point you missed at Sorrento's

"Could you give me your per-pizza pricing for a bulk order of about 14 to 18 large pizzas? Just standard cheese / pepperoni / one or two veggie."
"And what would the total look like for, say, 14 pies? And for 18?"
"Any toppings that are included at base price vs. extra-charge?"
DO NOT leave the call without a number. If they hedge, ask: "ballpark per pizza is fine — I just need to know if it's $20 or $30 range to figure out our budget."
3

LOGISTICS · the standard 8 (already know slice count + multi-wave shape)

"Can you handle a bulk order of 14 to 18 large pizzas this Friday evening?"
"Do you deliver to UAA Student Union, or do we pick up?"
"Can we split into two pickup waves — first around 5:45 PM, second around 7:00 PM?"
"And could the pies be double-cut? Smaller slices serve the crowd better."
"How far ahead do you need the order — by what day?"
"Payment — card on file at order, or at pickup? Itemized receipt, please, for our reimbursement."
"Who should I ask for if I need to call back? And what's the best day-of contact Friday evening?"
"Which location am I picking up from? Spenard or Midtown?" (Moose's has multiple — UAA Den is closer to Midtown)
4

SOFT-ASK · community/sponsorship rate · only after you have the quote

Don't lead with this. Get the price first (step 2). Then, after they've answered the logistics, transition gently.
"One more — and totally understand if the answer is no. I know our donation request was declined, and that's completely fair.

Is there any community event rate, student discount, or partial sponsorship available — even a small one? We'd happily recognize Moose's Tooth: logo on our partner thank-you sign at the event, a shout-out in the recap post (we typically get 500+ impressions plus PizzaDAO amplifies host recaps globally), and in our follow-up email to ~50 attendees.

Even something like $50 off, a free pie, or a comp on toppings would be a real help and we'd make sure the room knows who fed them."
If "no" → "totally understand, we'll proceed at the standard rate." Don't push twice. Lock the order.
5

CLOSE · lock or defer

If quote ≤ $32/pie AND two waves OK AND itemized receipt confirmed:
"Great — I'd like to lock the order now for [14 or 18] pies, [first wave 5:45, second wave 7:00]. Standard mix — half cheese, half pepperoni, and two veggie pies. Can I give you the card now?"
If quote is high (> $32/pie) or you want to compare with Saverio's first:
"Thanks so much. I want to confirm RSVPs tonight before locking the exact count. I'll call back tomorrow morning by [hour] to lock — does that work? Anything I should know before then?"
"Last thing — anything I haven't asked that you think I should know about Friday?"
"Hey, really appreciate your time and patience with all the questions. We'll make sure Moose's gets a strong shoutout. Talk Friday."

After the call · 60-second housekeeping

  1. Save day-of contact name + cell in phone (favorite + screenshot).
  2. Update 03_OPERATIONS/command-center/05_vendor_calls.csv Moose's row with every field above.
  3. Update vendor-call-sheet.html quote tracker table (bottom of this page).
  4. Text/email a confirmation summary if they accept it.
  5. Schedule confirm-callbacks for Wed May 20 and Thu May 21.
  6. Brief volunteer Food Lead on pickup details.

Decision rules

Lock Moose's Tooth if
· 2 waves OR good pickup logistics, AND
· Price ≤ ~$25–32/large, AND
· Itemized receipt confirmed.
Switch to Sorrento's or Saverio's if
· Moose's can't accommodate the timing, OR
· Total > ~$500 for 14 pies with no discount, OR
· Backups confirm a comparable rate AND deliver.

Donation status note

Moose's Tooth declined the formal donation request (see 03_OPERATIONS/vendors/Mooses_Tooth_Pizza_Donation_Request_GPP_Anchorage.pdf). Don't re-pitch the donation — that ship sailed. The soft-ask in step 4 is for a community/sponsorship rate or partial discount, framed as a partnership with public recognition. Accept "no" gracefully and lock the standard order.
